In a recent interview awareness survivor Diane Parr tells of her horrifying ordeal six years ago, whilst undergoing a routine operation on her teeth. Several years later Diane courageously went through a general anaesthetic again, in the same hospital. On this occasion, however, the Isolated Forearm Technique (IFT) was used, which enabled her to let the anaesthetist know how she was feeling throughout the operation. This technique is cited as the ‘gold standard’ of awareness monitoring. Diane can also be heard talking to Jamie Churchfield about awareness, on BBC Radio Cornwall, at 7.00am on 25th March. June Carson (aka Blacker) has frequently spoken out about her Awareness experience. She has appeared in several media

broadcasts since her experience in 1994, and continues to be a valiant and vocal spokesperson for the campaign to improve patients’ experience under anaesthesia. You can read a recent full account of her terrible ordeal here.
